EU approves single-shot vaccine developed by J&J

EU drugs regulator approves the single-shot vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson for use in the country

Johnson & Johnson has received the approval of the EU’s[1] drugs regulator for its COVID – 19 vaccine. This makes the company’s vaccine the 4th vaccine to get approval from the 27 – bloc nation. This vaccine is, however, unique as it is a single–shot vaccine. 1

The approval of this vaccine by the EU was recommended by the European Medicines Agency ( EMA ). This decision must be rubber–stamped by the European Commission before the distribution of the product. The EU authorization of this product will follow shortly.

This clearance is expected to improve the sluggish vaccine campaign in Europe. The chief of EMA firmly believes that this approval will bring another option to combat the pandemic and protect the lives of the citizens.

Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine was developed by its Belgian subsidiary, Janssen. The company filed for this approval on 16 February 2021.

So far, the EU has approved three COVID – 19 vaccines for use in the country. These are manufactured by Pfizer – BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca – Oxford.
