Dose 
Contraindications 1. Hypersensitivity to bromocriptine or other
ergot alkaloids
2. Ischaemic heart disease
3.Toxaemia of pregnancy
4. Hypertension in postpartum women or in the puerperium.
Precautions 1. Specialist evaluation-monitor for pituitary
enlargement
2. Particularly during pregnancy, annual gynaecological assessment
3. Monitor for peptic ulceration in acromegalic patients
4. Avoid lactation for about 5 days if lactation prevention fails
5. Cardiovascular disease or Raynaud’s
syndrome
6. Monitor for retroperitoneal fibrosis
7. Porphyria
8. Interactions
Adverse Effects 1. Nausea, constipation, headache, drowsiness,
nasal congestion
2. Less commonly vomiting, postural hypotension, fatigue, dizziness, dyskinesia, dry mouth, leg cramps
3. Particularly with high doses, confusion,
psychomotor excitation, hallucinations
4. Constrictive pericarditis, pericardial
effusion, pleural effusion
5. Retroperitoneal fibrosis reported hair loss
and allergic skin reactions
6. Very rarely, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastric ulcer,
